Under Mount vs. Top Mount Sinks

sink-types-300x89.jpg

An undermount sink is attached underneath the countertop, giving your kitchen a seamless, modern look that's easy to clean. With no lip around the edge of the sink, debris can be wiped directly into the sink, making cleaning a breeze. Though undermount sinks can be more expensive to install than top mount sinks, they offer a stylish upgrade that's worth the investment. Choose an undermount sink for a sleek, modern kitchen look that's easy to clean.

A top mount sink, also known as a drop-in sink, is a style of sink that is installed by dropping it into a hole cut into the countertop. This type of sink is a common and affordable option, as it can be easily installed on most countertops and does not require special sealing or precision cutting. Top mount sinks are available in a wide range of sizes and materials, making them a versatile choice for any kitchen. However, the lip around the sink's edge can make cleaning, around it more challenging than with an undermount sink. Top mount sink flanges are also prone to damage and "lifting" over time - Stonewood suggests the use of undermount sinks with stone countertops.
